Changing Paths is a literacy and life skills program for women who are in contact with the law. The Changing Paths program works with women to:
· reclaim their personal power and voice
· expand personal choices and make healthy lifestyle changes
· experience a positive group experience based on the sharing of personal life stories
· build and strengthen decision making
· communication and conflict resolution skills
Curriculum is woman-centered and participatory. Issues named by women in the group become the focus of the learning and include self knowledge, literacy, life skills and employment and education preparation.
Some quotes from Changing Paths participants:
"I want to gain the life skills that my addiction and my conflict with the law took away"
"I want to know how to get back out into society"
"I want to feel part of, rather than on the outside looking in"
This educational program is offered specifically to women who are in contact with the legal system. Entrance into the program is through referrals from probation officers, fine option, community hours and court referral.
