CAFFY (Court Assistants for Female Youth) is an initiative within the Youth Court Program matching volunteers to act as mentors and positive supports to young women who are involved in the Youth Court System. CAFFY.pdf

Just-Us Girls is an exciting new Program of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton, in collaboration with The Youth Criminal Defense Office, The Family Law Office, The Office of The Child & Youth Advocate, Children & Youth Services – Region 6, The Youth Restorative Action Project and The Young Offenders Branch.

The Program is aimed at a gender specific, restorative justice approach working with the vulnerable population of young Moms, who have either a Youth Criminal  Matter, or a Children and Youth Services Application before the courts.

The young Mother can take this opportunity to become involved (voluntarily), with community members who have been trained to conduct and participate in sharing circles, and provide mentorship, and support.

An action plan is devised in which she has the ability to address problems, and obtain applicable resources in an effort to sustain the family. In a Youth Court matter, it may offer sentencing recommendations, or an appropriate disposition for the Extrajudicial Sanctions Program. In a Children’s Services matter, it may assist in addressing the young Mom’s personal issues, allowing the return of her child(ren).

Ultimately, this Program allows the Young Mother the opportunity to become an active participant in which her voice is heard, and in establishing a positive outcome
